Dear Students, Parents, Faculty and Staff,
Welcome to The School District of the City of York’s webpage. We look forward to the 2013-2014 school year because it promises to be an exciting year for our students and the entire York City learning community. The School District of the City of York remains committed to our mission statement. It reads:
As a professional learning community we educate the whole child by providing an engaging and challenging learning environment to ensure that each student receives a premier education.
The district’s vision begins with a belief that education is a lifelong process which must involve the student, family, and staff in order to attain excellence in all areas. The District encourages a culture that values academic achievement, diversity, and meaningful parental and community involvement. We believe that an informed and involved community is vital to the strength, growth and improvement of the school system.
We believe that rigor in all curricular, as well as extracurricular endeavors, is critical for academic achievement. We also believe that our students must be effective communicators, independent learners, motivated critical thinkers and innovators to compete with their peers around the world.
The Board of School Directors recently adopted a five year District Recovery Plan. The administration is committed to carrying out the components of this plan in cooperation with our faculty and staff. Over the course of the next year we will focus on the following three goals from that plan:
We need your support as our students demonstrate their skills and talents in academic, cultural, athletic and community venues throughout the 2013-2014 school year. We encourage you to participate in your local school’s Parent Advisory Committee or serve on the newly formed School Advisory Committee. Whether you are an active participant or a positive spectator your presence is critical to the success of the School District of the City of York!
Best wishes to all of you for a great 2013-2014 school year.
Eric B. Holmes, Ed. D.
