Dear SDCY Families,
We take seriously any information shared with us regarding potential threats to our school community. Last evening (October 1), we became aware of a message circulating on social media related to threats of violence. Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff, the following precautions have been implemented:
Increased Police Support: There will be additional police presence during student entry and dismissal times.
School Police Officers: Mobile patrols will be conducted district-wide.
Outdoor Activities: All outdoor activities during school hours will be suspended for the remainder of the week.
As is often the case with social media posts like these, the initial message has led to rumors and the spread of inaccurate information, which understandably creates anxiety and fear. If you or your student become aware of any potential threat, whether posted on social media or communicated elsewhere, please notify a school staff member or trusted adult immediately. The Safe2Say Something Hotline (1-844-723-2729) is also available for reporting suspicious behavior, or you can submit a report online at www.safe2saypa.org.
By reporting these concerns, we can work together to ensure they are properly investigated and addressed. In addition to reporting concerns, we encourage you to talk with your students about their use of social media and the importance of responsible online behavior.
Please remind them that making false threats is a serious crime and can result in severe consequences. If there are any updates to this situation, we will communicate them directly with families via our district website. While we believe the message does not pose a credible threat to our schools, we take our responsibility to protect our community very seriously.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our school community safe.
Sincerely,
SDCY Administration
